Gordon's Bay Links Festival October 2010 |

On behalf of NSRI and Aquatic clubs in Gordon’s Bay we would like to request sponsorship for our annual Links Aquatic Festival.
The goal of the festival is aimed to raise funds for the NSRI – (Station 9). The Festival will take place on the weekend of 29 -31 October 2010. We are planning to raise funds by having an “Anything that floats” raft race between the Gordon's Bay old Harbour and Spur.
We will also offer aquatic sport evens during that period to introduce the public to water sports and safety on the water.
We will have the following fun attractions:
- Yacht racing
- Rubber duck racing
- Kayak racing
- Inshore angling completion
- Open Navy Day

Cape Town, Table Mountain & The Cape Of Good Hope |

The Cape Peninsula, in the south east corner of Africa, is indeed regarded by many, and definitely by most South Africans, as one of the most beautiful sights in the world. Cape Town, South Africa's mother city, nestles at the foot of Table Mountain, a unique flat top mountain rising out of the sea. At the tip of the peninsula is Cape Point. Sir Francis Drake called it "the fairest cape in the whole circumference of the earth". Portuguese explorers called it Cabo Tormentoso - "Cape of Storms". Reaching it after months at sea, low on food and fresh water after a harrowing voyage down the barren African west coast, the Dutch called it "Cape of Good Hope". Even today, regular ship wrecks along this coastline testify to the accuracy of the name: "Cape of Storms", however when the weather is good, the name "Cape of Good Hope" is equally true. |

South Africa's Garden Route |

This is where I will retire one day. Somewhere a long the South Africa's Garden Route - my most favourite part of South Africa - maybe because of my roots. My mother was born and grew up in Mossel Bay ("Mussel" Bay), as a child we spent all our seaside holidays in this area and even now our family prefers to holiday along this stretch of the South African coast - even though it is a 12 hour car trip to get here from Johannesburg.
The "Garden Route" refers to a stretch along the south coast of South Africa. The national road follows a scenic route along the southern coastline for a few hundred kilometres. To appreciate the area one must follow the old route because modern life and the need for speed have seen the advent of highways and toll roads in recent years so that the casual traveller misses a lot of the beauty. Take some time to travel the old roads.
